In the end, he does not wear overalls to the designer's party. He is not a complete philistine. But all said and done, he still realizes belatedly that his outfit makes him look like someone's dad, and it doesn't help that his Italian is spotty at best. He should have thought this through better. Worn his other personality, or something. Oh fuck, this isn't going to go well.
"Do you think I can play up the quirky scientist card?" he whispers to Serena as they head towards the front door together. "I brought my wand. I can conjure up some interesting plants sprouting from my jacket seams. That would possibly qualify as a look."
He is very clearly flapping. It's not that he thinks Serena would bring him somewhere unpleansant, but he is never very comfortable in a large crowd of people in formal wear. It sounds too much like his gran's Christmas parties.
